'Avatar: The Game' Requires HDMI For 3D Effects
>> From multiplayerblog.mtv.com:
"Avatar: The Game," based on the upcoming James Cameron movie, is one of the first titles to support fancy 3D effects on specially equipped TVs. Apparently you'll need more than just the TV, though.
Let's say you're a hardcore fan of the Xbox 360, and bought one at launch. Hell, let's say you bought one a year after launch. If you've got one of the early boxes, which don't have an HDMI-out, you're SOL when it comes to playing "Avatar: The Game" in 3D. Luc Duchaine, the game's senior international brand manager, confirmed today that the game will require 1080p resolution to see the 3D effects, and the only way you can get that on a 360 is through the HDMI port. Shane Kim iffy regarding on-demand Xbox 360 games releasing day-and-date with retail
>> From joystiq.com:
Shane Kim, Microsoft's VP of strategy and business development for Xbox, admits that the company is "not anywhere close to that world today" of offering day-and-date releases of on-demand Xbox 360 games alongside retail launches. In an interview with Fast Company, Kim expresses that offering Xbox 360 games on the Xbox Marketplace is a "natural evolution," but states there are "complex issues" to deal with by offering digital versions of games on their retail release days. Preview Program Emails are being sent out
>> From majornelson.com:
We're in the process of sending notification emails out to the first group of people for the Xbox LIVE Update Preview Program. Please check your email (and spam folder...just in case) to see if you were selected. If we stay on schedule, those selected should receive a prompt to accept the update later today/tonight.
We'll be sending another wave of notifications later this week, but we are holding registration open a bit longer to make sure everyone has a chance to participate. If you signed up but did not receive a mail yet, please head over to the connect site and review your information to make sure it is correct. I am being told that there are quite a few people did not properly complete the survey. If this is the first you are reading about the Preview Program, go ahead and sign up and you may be chosen to participate before the update is released on August 11th.
Update: Sign in to the connect site to see if you are accepted, since many of you did not opt-in to allow us to send you emails, or your email was not properly record in the system.
THQ Boss Says Project Natal Will Be Out In 2010
>> From kotaku.com:
Speaking during his company's earnings get-together earlier today, Farrell (boss of publisher THQ) - presumably speaking with some degree of knowledge on the subject, what with his company making games for the console - said the 360's motion-sensing camera peripheral will be out "late next year." Which is exactly what everybody has been thinking, but hey, it's nice hearing somebody put it on record, even if they're not a Microsoft employee that's able to give us a timeframe we can take to the bank. Joystiq Interview: Last.fm on Xbox Live
>> From xbox.joystiq.com:
Read Yeung's take from the Last.fm side of the deal, as she discusses a range of topics, including why her company is better than Pandora, its social media plans, and how audio scrobbling works in APB.
* Is the Last.fm functionality that's coming to Xbox Live the same functionality you get on the website? Previously, there was a rather wonky way to access Last.fm through the Media Center. What about now? * A little bit of yes and no. I think, yes, it will be the Last.fm experience that users are accustomed to, and that idea of the recommended music and the personalized radio stations, and as per our new radio page, that kind of multi-sensory visual experience. So that will be the same in terms of the core experience. I guess what will be different is obviously we are going to work with Xbox and take advantage of being on another platform and take advantage of what that platform offers. And secondly, because it is in the living room now versus on your PC, it is going to have a different user interaction experience. So all those things will be optimized for it to be on the Xbox platform and be in the living room, but ultimately it is that Last.fm experience that our users, and probably now new Xbox users, value.
* Will the service be available to all Xbox users, or is it specific to certain regions? We're guessing it'll be available in the UK, since Last.fm is based in the UK ... * Right. Last.fm is a global service, so we will be available in the US. We are obviously looking at other territories as well, given both the brands are quite global in nature, but that has yet to be determined.
* Will you be able to log into Last.fm on your computer and see if any of your friends there are also Xbox Live users, and vice versa? Will your accounts be tied together? * That is definitely really interesting, and that is definitely one of the reasons why Xbox is so attractive to us in the first place, because there is that big community angle to Xbox Live. And as you know, the platform is community driven. So in the future, being able to really marry those communities more and have that be transparent is definitely something that we want to think about. But in the first iteration of this experience, it is really about getting Last.fm up and running in an appropriate way for that living room experience. So those types of community integrations, we know we have talked about it obviously, and it is something that seems obvious that we should be doing in the future, but that really will not be in the first implementation. MednafenX-NES v10.5pb (Public Beta)
>> madmab released a new beta based on Xport's MednafenX-NES(info) for Xbox1. From the readme/nfo:
What's New: * Dynamic Skin with Dual Screenshot Movie Previews * DYNAMIC MEDNAFENX PM3 skin by Gilou9999 (read the readme.txt in his skin folder). * There is an alternate synopsis background in the skin directory. Feel free to try it (just rename it to "synopsis.jpg) * Lots of interface updates. This is mostly an interface update with all the changes I've made over the past few months. It's basically a public beta to (hopefully) drum up some interest and give everyone a taste of what's ahead. If you feel like signing up head over to the RessurectionXtras thread at http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=660135 and volunteer. If you have any questions head over to that thread, or the official release thread. I have a few tips for working with the .dat files.
Changes to Mednafen * Modified the rewind controls to use the now standard method of mapping used by all other x-port emus. * Customized the default mappings for emu (Only NES related mappings are displayed). * mp3CDDA and CDDA have their own volume control now and are saved with each game configuration (only affects MednafenX_PCE). - Still waiting on some Mapper changes by XTecuterX73. But this is beta, so no big hurry.
